Our Journey at Freedom
Pastoral Leadership
Alvin and Brenda Walker have faithfully served as pastors of Freedom since May 1, 2004.
Background and Ministry Experience
Alvin is a second-generation Baptist pastor. He married Brenda Burnett during their time as students at Wayland Baptist University, and together they have been blessed with three children and eight grandchildren. Alvin earned his bachelor’s degree from Wayland Baptist University and a master’s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary while Brenda became a public school teacher. Their ministry journey began in Texas, serving various churches, and in 1981, Alvin and Brenda were appointed as foreign missionaries to Brazil. They served in Brazil until 1990, dedicating their lives to sharing the gospel and supporting the local faith community.
A Transformative Journey at Freedom
Alvin and Brenda’s time at Freedom has been both intriguing and inspiring. Through study and teaching, the members of Freedom have developed a deeper appreciation for God’s Word. The Holy Spirit guided the congregation into new understandings, revealing that they worship a Jewish Rabbi whose ministry was in Israel and who will return to Jerusalem to establish His Millennial Reign. This realization heightened awareness of the significance of the Middle East, especially Israel.
As the congregation delved further into Scripture, they recognized the importance of observing the Sabbath. This led to a transition from Sunday worship to Sabbath worship. They also began to study and observe God’s festivals, understanding that these celebrations are a way for God to teach His followers His prophetic calendar and His plan for the ages. The importance of knowing and obeying God’s Law became clear, not as a means of salvation, but as an act of obedience as children of God.
Our Church Family and Mission
The Freedom church body is a family, united in “Loving God and Loving People.” Our mission is to build a church that fosters long-term relationships and creates a congregation where everyone is part of something much greater than themselves. We strive to be a place where each person can belong to something meaningful, lasting, and eternal.
We invite everyone to pray that we will remain sensitive to God’s Spirit. We believe that the time for Christ’s return is drawing near. Our encouragement is to love one another, be true followers of Yeshua ha-Mashiach, and continue loving God and loving people.
